Older People's Community Champs are off!
Posted in All posts, Learning, Silver Surfers
The OLCCs are all UK online centres who, with support from Ofcom, are taking a lead locally to promote digital inclusion for older people. There are 9 of them, and they will be at the forefront of UK online’s ‘It’s never too late’ campaign in May, as part of which they will also be getting involved in and celebrating Silver Surfers’ Day. I have just had the pleasure of their company running a webinar which DU devised to support their work, and help them make the most of some of the knowledge and experience we’ve accrued doing this very thing over the years. Expect to see more of them on this blog and throughout the SSD season.

This is just a quick response to introduce Cambridge Online as the Older Learners Community Champion for the East of England. We are really excited to be involved in this project, and we have already had loads of enquiries from other UK online centres who want to join in with the “It’s never too late” campaign.
Our main work is based in Cambridgeshire where we have 20 community access points providing free computer access and training for anybody who needs it. We also have a special project providing accessibility advice and computer training for disabled and disadvantaged people.
We are no strangers to working across the Eastern Counties as we are the East Region Accessibility Champion and lead the Switched On Communities project.
More details of our work is at http://www.cambridgeonline.org.uk where there is also contact information if you want to get in touch, and jump on board with “It’s Never Too Late” or any of our other projects.

Hello Andrew,
This is all very interesting.
Will you be running Silver Surfers’ Day events on May 15 as part of your camapaign and will they be listed on this site or on yours?
How far east do you come, is it only Cambs? And if so, do you have links with centres in Suffolk who’ll get involved?
Sorry lots of questions!

Hi George
Yes, we will be running SSD events and they are/will be listed on this site. We are running events in Cambridge, but will also be working with partners who will be running events across the East region. Yes, we are currently talking to centres in Suffolk, and events should be announced shortly. Keep a watch on this website for full events listings nearer the time.
