University of the Third Age: it's online!

Posted in All posts, Learning

University of the Third Age (U3A) are self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operatives for older people no longer in full time work, providing opportunities for their members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning not for qualifications, but for fun.

But what if you are unable to attend U3A or any other group’s physical meetings by reason of location, health, disability, caring for others or other reason such as working unsocial hours?  Have you heard of vU3A (virtual University of Third Age)?

vU3A has social and study groups that operate entirely over the Internet?  The groups, some well supported some just opened, cover photography, science, stamp collecting and many more.  If you have a computer and access to the internet and the ability to send/receive e-mails you can join vU3A from the comfort of your home.  Thanks to the Internet this is possible and how they do it you can discover for yourself.

Visit their wiki site set up especially for Silver Surfers’ Day: http://www.vu3aguidedtour.pbworks.com and print out a tour that will introduce you to their website and their wiki.  Annual membership is less than 25p a week and one lucky visitor will win an annual membership subscription.
